How The Nurse Feels in NYC
Well, we're going back to NYC with the show.  This time we're crashing the NAMT Festival.  That's National Alliance of Musical Theatre for all you civilians out there.  We submitted our show for their yearly festival and two of our songs will be put on their annual CD, "The Other Shows You Need to Know About."  However, they only choose 8 shows to do readings for the festival and we, unfortunately were not selected.  But my fearless partners decided to venture forth and we are putting up a reading with a star-studded cast and slipping it in, in between the NAMT readings.  Such a clever idea!
Anyway, please check out the link for the full story on BroadwayWorld.com.   It tells of our illustrious cast and a little bit about the story of the show.  It's a very exciting time to be sure!  Stay tuned...I'll let you know how it all goes down when I return from the Big Apple.  Until then...
P.S.  Another press release on "Nurse" is up on the Playbill website.  Check it out at:http://www.playbill.com/news/article/122133.html

Technology
Don't ask me what happened.  Don't ask me why it happened.  Don't ask me how they fixed it.  But there it is. Two days ago, I was checking to see if a link between my website and my colleague, Larry Silverberg's website worked and lo and behold....my site was gone.  The dreaded word "Error" came up "no website found."  Oy Vey!  Me being me, panic set in.  Long story short, you're reading this, aren't you?  So obviously it's back up.  But it was a painful reminder that I'm so incredibly illiterate in the world of computers and technology and what makes things tick.  And, unfortunately, I'm becoming more dependent upon them each and every day. Me and everybody else.  I tell myself I'm going to take a class one of these days, and within the same breath I say, who am I kidding?  I'm not takin' no stinkin' class!  Ah well....chaos is restored and I'm back online.  So let's all breathe a collective sigh of relief, shall we?

Musings on a Midsummer Morning
I'm sitting at my kitchen counter getting my carpet cleaned.  Last year when I got my carpet cleaned, I walked on the wet carpet and not realizing how wet my feet were, I slipped on my bathroom floor.  I didn't go down, but I tweaked my toe somehow.  I looked down and the second toe on my left foot looked very odd.  I thought, "that toe isn't supposed to be bent over so far to the right.  I'll just push it back."  So I did.  And didn't think anything of it.  There was no pain.
But three hours later, it was all swollen and purple and shit and what a dope I was...never put ice on it or anything. Oh yeah, and the pain came later. Like I said, what a dope!  Anyway, you live and learn.  This year, I won't go ice skating on my bathroom floor.  Oh, did I mention how pretty my carpet looks?

My reading was two nights ago.  We had a good turn-out and the audience seemed to like the play.  Or they were being polite.  I can never tell.  I'm sending a HUGE THANK YOU to my mom, Annette and brother-in-law Kelley who totally helped me with the concessions.  They helped to finance it, did the set-up, the clean-up...Oh....I love them.  Thanks you guys!!!

The actors, Shaughn Buchholz, Heidi Darchuk, and Christopher Goodson did a great job.  And a huge thanks to Jeff Weatherford who arranged for the whole thing and directed the piece.  I hope we can go the distance with this thing.  I really do.  Now, I need to go write another play.

Ok...off to watch the carpets dry! Thanks for reading!  Until the next time...

Triangle Logic
I guess I'm not very good at this blogging thing.  I'm sort of averaging one a month.  Anyway, I'm here to talk about my play, Triangle Logic, which will have it's first LA staged reading on Tuesday, July 29th.

Triangle Logic is a dark comedy that examines the relationships between one straight woman and two gay men.  No...it's not autobiographical! Ok...not TOTALLY!

The reading will be directed by the great and wonderful JEFF WEATHERFORD and features Shaughn Buchholz, Chris Goodson and Heidi Darchuk.

Here are the details:
The Lounge Theatre
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
8:00 PM
6201 Santa Monica Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90039
Santa Monica Blvd @ El Centro just one block East of Vine.

The event is FREE!!! And we will have wine and snacks available for a mere donation for the cause. It should be a lot of fun, so come on out for a great night!  If you can't make it because you're out of town or somethin', I completely understand, but if you're around, I do hope you'll attend.

Ok...that's all for now on this balmy midsummer evening.  I will make a better attempt to blog more frequently....I actually have a lot to say and a lot on my mind...I'm just not sure I want to make it public, ya know?  Oh...get your minds out of the gutter...it's OTHER STUFF!  Most of it anyway! Wink

Until the next time...

Upcoming Stuff

I can't believe it's already June! 2008 is flying by.  A couple of new things are happening which are definitely worth mentioning!  First of all, I'm assisting the wonderful director/choreographer, Terry Barto with the Orange County Premiere of "The Wedding Singer."  It opens June 13th at Founders Hall at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.  Here's a direct link for tickets: http://www.ocpac.org/home/Events/EventDetail.aspx?EventID=809
It's going to be a great show...it's a lot of fun, very upbeat, so if you want to take a trip back to the 80's, you should definitely come.  It's based on the movie of the same name that starred Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.  It's very cute. I'm having fun, and best of all, working with Terry has been a great perk...he's terrific!

Next, my writing partner David Green is having his own show at Birdland! Birdland is the jazz cabaret club in NYC.  The show will feature songs written by David and our collaborator John Glaudini and will be sung by some of the best performers on Broadway today. The whole point of the show is that most of these performers just happen to be former students of Mr. David Green...so obviously he's done something right!  The show will also feature songs from our show "How The Nurse Feels."  If anyone is in the NYC area in mid July, you should definitely check it out.  It's going to be amazing.  Here's a link to the press release on Playbill.com.  http://www.playbill.com/news/article/118383.html

That's it for now.  Until the next time...

The Book Signing
Well, the book signing was a great success.  A big thanks to everybody who showed up...it was a great turnout! I feel very lucky to have so much support.  In addition to the new book, 3 other books were featured, and I'm happy to report that all the books sold out!  So thank you, thank you, thank you!  It was a fun evening!

The Disney/ASCAP Workshop
Okay, so for those of you who don't know, my partners and I have been writing a musical called "How the Nurse Feels" and it was accepted into the Disney/ASCAP workshop at the Disney Studios in Burbank.  Out of a zillion entries (just a mere exaggeration) our show was one of four shows selected.  On April 7th we presented the first 25 minutes of the show and then we were critiqued by a panel of musical theatre experts including Stephen (Wicked)Schwartz.  Then, we had three weeks to work on the piece (implementing the notes we received if we so desired), and we came back on April 30th to present 55 consecutive minutes of our show. As participants, we were also required to attend the presentations for the other 3 shows in the workshop. That's the back-story.
So here's how it went:  First of all, just attending was a master class in writing.  Watching other people's work and then hearing the critiques from the highly esteemed panel was amazing.  I learned so much.  But being a participant...well, it was very cool, kind of surreal and a tad bit overwhelming.  After the first presentation on April 7th, John Glaudini (composer) and David Green(lyricist, co-bookwriter) feverishly started writing new songs.  Those two guys were like machines...I was in awe.  Consequently, new songs meant new scenes and new dialogue and that's where I came in.  Thank God for Starbucks, cause that's where David and I do our best writing.  DG and I were writing right up until we presented our piece.  I'm not kidding you.  They were about to open the door to let the audience in and we're still writing dialogue to help bridge a scene. Oy vey!  Very exhilarating to say the least. The cast was terrific...they did a wonderful job and it was so much fun seeing our characters come to life, hearing the audience laugh in all the right places...that was the cool part.  Here comes the nerve-wracking part...
Well, our panel was incredible.  In addition to Stephen Schwartz, we had Winnie (Wicked) Holzman, Dean (Footloose) Pitchford, and Jeff (Avenue Q) Marx.  They gave us some amazing feedback and spoke to us for over an hour.  I took notes, but mainly just listened to what they had to say. Mostly, their comments were right on target, but sometimes what they had to say was a bit contradictory and in the end they all said, "take what we say with a grain of salt, you have a great show."  The audience loved it, which of course is very encouraging.  But the bottom line is we still have a lot of work to do.  I, personally, love our characters and feel that with a little more work on storytelling, we might just have ourselves a fine piece of theatre.  For now it's back to the drawing board.  Stay tuned for more updates!  Until the next time...

My First Blog!
Look Ma...I'm blogging!  I can't even tell you how excited I am to finally have a website.  I tried, and tried, and tried to get one up before, but to no avail.  Taking matters into my own hands, I built this one myself.  It's a little jinky, but at least I'm finally living in the 21st century and am up on the web!  So for those of you who are visiting me, I would like to welcome you with open arms.  I hope to keep this blog current, whether it be with my stream-of-consciousness ramblings, or something of real note.  But for now, thanks for stopping by to take a look.  Until the next time...
